Journeyperson to Apprentice Ratios

On November 21, 2018, the Ontario Legislature passed Bill 47, Making Ontario Open for Business Act, 2018, which includes changes to Ontario’s apprenticeship and skilled trades system.

Among the changes includes transferring the responsibility of establishing journeyperson to apprentice ratios from the Ontario College of Trades to the Minister of Labour, Training, and Skills Development (Minister), and setting one-to-one ratios for any trades with ratios. Under the Making Ontario Open for Business Act, 2018, the Minister has the power to make additional regulations surrounding journeyperson to apprenticeship ratios.

More information on the Making Ontario Open for Business Act, 2018 can be found here.
