November 1, 2017 – 13236323 o/a Mariposa Electric Ltd.

Charge: Part III Provincial Offences Act summons for an offence under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, sec. 4 – employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification.

Summary: On July 26, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a new residential construction site located in Bowmanville, ON. The inspectors determined that one individual employed or otherwise engaged by 13236323 o/a Mariposa Electric Ltd. was installing an electrical fixture on the ground level of a new construction single family dwelling while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of electrician – construction and maintenance (309A) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

On November 1, 2017, 13236323 o/a Mariposa Electric Ltd. was convicted of the charge in a Whitby court and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500 plus a $625 victim fine surcharge. In addition, the court issued a one-year probation order for 13236323 o/a Mariposa Electric Ltd.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
