July 7, 2017 – Ontario Corporation #2409531 o/a Salon AF & Co.

Charge: Part III Provincial Offences Act summons for an offence under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, sec. 4 – employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification.

Summary: On January 19, 2017 Ontario College of Trades inspectors received a complaint regarding unauthorized individuals performing compulsory trade work at Salon AF & Co. located at 3082 Dundas Street West, Toronto ON. The inspectors determined that one individual employed by Ontario Corporation #2409531 o/a Salon AF & Co. was performing a hair colour service for remuneration while she did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of hairstylist (332A) that is not suspended, and while she was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

On July 7, 2017 Ontario Corporation #2409531 o/a Salon AF & Co. was convicted of the charge in a Toronto court and was ordered to pay a fine of $2,300 plus a $575 victim fine surcharge.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
