July 20, 2017 – 2421548 o/a Gerrits Drilling 2014 Inc.

Charge: Part III Provincial Offences Act summons for an offence under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, sec. 4 – employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification.

Summary: On September 5, 2016, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at 19990 Scane Road in Ridgetown ON with regards to work performed on October 4, 2016. The inspectors determined that one individual employed by 2421548 o/a Gerrits Drilling 2014 Inc. was operating a crane while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of hosting engineer – mobile crane operator 1 (339A) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

On July 20, 2017 2421548 o/a Gerrits Drilling 2014 Inc. was convicted of the charge in a Chatham court and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500 plus a $625 victim fine surcharge. In addition, the court issued a two-year probation order for the corporation.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
