September 27, 2017 – Northstar 1 Auto Inc.

Contravention: Person employing or otherwise engaging an individual to perform work or engage in a practice that constitutes engaging in the practice of a compulsory trade without proper qualifications, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On September 21, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at Northstar 1 Auto, located at 1306 Crawford Avenue, Windsor ON. The inspectors determined that two individuals employed by Northstar 1 Auto were performing auto body repairs to the front end of a motor vehicle by using a frame straightening rack, while they did not hold a Certificates of Qualification or Statements of Membership in the compulsory trade of auto body and collision damage repairer (310B) that is not suspended, and while they were not apprentices in the trade working pursuant to registered training agreements that are not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On September 27, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Northstar 1 Auto Inc. of Windsor, setting out an administrative penalty of $1000. Northstar 1 Auto Had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
