November 29, 2017 – 2521524 Ontario Inc. o/a Vtech Automotive

Contravention: Employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On September 14, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted a follow-up inspection at VTech Automotive Inc., located at 1147 Lawrence Avenue West, Toronto, ON. The inspectors determined that two individuals employed by 2521524 Ontario Inc. o/a Vtech Automotive installed a new front side control arm and sway bar line onto a motor vehicle and changed the head cylinder gasket, cylinder head and taking off cylinder head and exhaust manifold bolt using a wrench while they did not hold Certificates of Qualification or Statements of Membership in the compulsory trade of automotive service technician (310S) that is not suspended, and while they were not apprentices in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On November 29, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to 2521524 Ontario Inc. o/a Vtech Automotive of Toronto, setting out an administrative penalty of $1,000. 2521524 Ontario Inc. o/a Vtech Automotive had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
