November 20, 2017 – Kurt Barry WEST

Contravention: Individual engaging in the practice of a compulsory trade without proper qualifications, contrary to section 2 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On April 11, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a residence in Bracebridge, ON. The inspectors determined that Kurt Barry West was installing an air conditioning unit while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of residential air conditioning systems mechanic (313D) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On November 20, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Kurt Barry West of Burk’s Falls, setting out an administrative penalty of $250. Mr. West had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to him in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
