Contravention: Individual engaging in the practice of a compulsory trade without proper qualifications, contrary to section 2 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On August 25, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a new residential construction site located at lot #53 Adams Avenue South, Listowel, ON. The inspectors determined that Mark Akong was installing and connecting piping for the supply of water while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of plumber (306A) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On January 3, 2018, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Mark Akong of Ajax ON, setting out an administrative penalty of $250. Mark Akong had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to him in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
