January 3, 2018 – Basic Auto Repair

Contravention: Employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On November 6, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at Basic Auto Repair, located at 2311 Shore Street, unit #2, Ottawa, ON. The inspectors determined that an individual employed or engaged by Basic Auto Repair was replacing a wheel bearing on a motor vehicle, while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of Automotive Service Technician (310S) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On January 3, 2018, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Basic Auto Repair of Ottawa ON, setting out an administrative penalty of $500. Basic Auto Repair had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.
