December 7, 2017 – Ontario Corp. #2110611 o/a PK Electrical Co Inc.

Contravention: Employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On November 16, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors responded to a complaint from the public regarding unauthorized individuals performing electrical work at Orchard Villa Retirement Residence, located at 1955 Valley Farm Road, Pickering, ON. The inspectors determined that two individuals employed by Ontario Corp. #2110611 o/a PK Electrical Co Inc. were re-wiring and installing dimmer switches for new lights above bed headboards in a long term health care facility while they did not hold Certificates of Qualification or Statements of Membership in the compulsory trade of electrician – construction and maintenance that is not suspended, and they were not apprentices in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On December 7, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Ontario Corp. #2110611 o/a PK Electrical Co Inc. of Oshawa, setting out an administrative penalty of $500. Ontario Corp. #2110611 o/a PK Electrical Co Inc. had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

The Ontario College of Trades is winding down as the government takes action to modernize the skilled trades and apprenticeship system.
